Ya I read The Inner Game of Music and it's quite good. The language seems a bit dated, but overall the concepts are great.

Hey all,
Nice thread! I'm coming on this a few days late, but I'll add some more material to this--I too have "The Inner Game of Music" as well as Werner's wonderful "Effortless Mastery"; a third I'd highly recommend is called "The Art of Practicing" by Madeline Bruser. Really nice perspective on the subject, and highly recommended!

Well, we all know who stepped down from a promising career as tennis pro to become the highly respected, influential and acclaimed drummer he is today:

...yes, because he realized he'd get more chicks playing in a band.

Gee thanks.
Are there any books on self-motivation/inspiration out there?
Thanks for all the book recommendations guys... went out on my lunch break and picked up The Inner Game of Music today... Only read a little bit but so far it's quite interesting. Once I'm done reading this one I'll probably go pick up some other books recommended.
Thanks again guys!
